Lotus says its next supercar is two years out and will revive the V8 — with a twist.
The upcoming supercar will be part of the Chinese-owned British marque's 'Focus 2030' plan. Lotus hasn't settled on a name yet — for now, they're calling it by its working name, the 'Type 135' — but says it's due out in 2028 as an Emira replacement.
The Type 135 won't be fully electric, either. Lotus' new plan shifts from its original goal of becoming fully electric by 2028, instead embracing both conventional and plug-in hybrids. To that end, the Type 135 will be a conventional V8 hybrid targeting 1,000 PS (986 hp), and Lotus says it will be built in the U.K.

Along with the Type 135, Lotus' new plan calls for an updated Emira due out sometime next year with a hybrid powertrain, but details remain under wraps. Lotus' plan also doesn't specify if the Emira X, a plug-in hybrid
As for the name, we think Lotus figured it out already, but are being cheeky. Not only was the Type 135 the development name for the Esprit, this upcoming supercar will be the first Lotus since 2004 with a V8.
Guess what that one was called.
