Honda is reportedly about to suspend its $15 billion plan to build EVs in Ontario.

The plan, which includes an assembly plant and a battery factory, was originally part of Honda's global EV strategy. But Nikkei Asia reports that, while a final decision is expected later this month, Honda will likely "indefinitely" suspend, if not outright cancel its plan.

The new factories were announced in 2024 and originally slated to come online in 2028, pumping out an additional 240,000 vehicles in addition to what Honda currently builds in Alliston. But last year, Honda announced a two-year delay citing similar reasons.

Honda cites its scaled-back global EV strategy and its decision to refocus on hybrids for North America as the main reasons for this about-face. The news comes days after Honda announced it will delay doling out updates and redesigns to five key internal-combustion models for similar reasons—not enough money.

Along with the plant delay—or cancellation, depending on how optimistic you are—the Honda Prologue's days are reportedly numbered. Production is expected to end "as early as the second half of this year" with no successor in the cards.
