Volkswagen is reportedly looking to pare down half its global lineup in response to growing financial headwinds.
Cost-cutting and fatter profit margins will be the main focus at Volkswagen through the end of the decade, as part of its recently announced financial plans. While the automaker itself didn't confirm what will be put out to pasture and when, German newspaper Bild — hat tip to Motor1 — claims a handful of popular models are on the hit list.
According to the German newspaper, the models reportedly getting axed — at least, the ones relevant to us — include the Volkswagen Jetta and Taos, the "Sportback" variants of the Audi Q5 and Q6 e-tron, and two Skoda models. The Jetta can't seem to catch a break, with the manual GLI having just been axed.
Porsche can't seem to catch a break, either. Bild's report claims the Cayenne Coupe and a Taycan successor will be put on ice, and the gas-powered variants of the next-gen Boxster and Cayman likely won't happen, either.
Along with paring down the lineup, Volkswagen Group also plans to reduce the number of equipment and options on offer, and will reduce production capacity to 9 million vehicles worldwide.
