If you've ever wondered what a cross between a Jaguar XJ and a Range Rover Velar would look like, Range Rover's upcoming EV — no, not that one — ought to satiate that morbid curiosity.

Jaguar Land Rover dropped a sneak peek at the upcoming Range Rover GT, a new, flagship EV that appears to go against Range Rover's very own ethos by being ... a car.

"We have spent the last few years working obsessively on the fundamentals of the GT formula, reinterpreted in a sophisticated, uniquely Range Rover way," writes Martin Limpert, Jaguar Land Rover's managing director. "The result is the most car‑like, yet unmistakably capable, Range Rover ever created."

In the handful of images released by the automaker, the Range Rover GT prototype appears to be wearing a decidedly thin layer of camouflage. We can easily pick out details like the chunky wheel arches and tight fitment, the swooping roofline, lighting elements that wouldn't look out-of-place on other Rangies, and overall proportions akin to Jaguar's upcoming Type 01 flagship.

Range Rover offered a full, uncamouflaged look inside the GT. The split, two-tone dashboard framed by chrome pieces is much more in-line with Range Rover's current models. The GT, however, uses more sustainable materials and textiles instead of, you know, animal skin, and the rear environment looks wonderfully airy and bright.

And perhaps it's just us, but it seems like screens almost take a back seat in the Range Rover GT. The infotainment display positioned in the middle of the dash seems almost reasonably sized, and the slimmer, separate display for the digital instrument cluster appears to be placed higher up on the dash. Where Mercedes uses big screens and fingerprints to define luxury, it's refreshing to see Range Rover maintain a seemingly more traditional approach.

Beyond confirming that it will be electric and built atop Jaguar Land Rover's EMA platform architecture, Range Rover hasn't said much else. Previously, JLR announced the EMA platform will also underpin an upcoming Defender EV, and eventually accommodate a hybrid powertrain.
