We're all getting accustomed to every thing we own being able to do every thing we need at once. Our phones now function as pagers, cameras, and music players. Our crossover SUVs have replaced economy cars, family haulers, and adventure vehicles. Our trucks have become muscle cars, luxury limos, and tow rigs. For our world where every thing has to do every job, our tires have to be quiet commuter tires, safe snow tires, and as is increasingly the case, off-road tires all at once as well. The newest entry into this fray of multifaceted tires is the Hankook DynaPro Total Terrain.

Hankook is one of the largest tire companies in the world, selling more than 110 million tires a year, produced in plants around the world, in China, Korea, Germany, and recently, Tennessee. They make everything from tires for Formula E race cars, World Rally Championship cars, factory installed tires for high performance BMW and Audi vehicles, and lots of heavy duty commercial truck tires; in all cases, they cannot be anything other than exceptional, and durable. Their newest jack of all trades in the DynaPro Total Terrain is no different.

Hankook's DynaPro family of off-road tires has been around for more than twenty years, and this new Total Terrain joins the AT2 and MT2 as an all-purpose solution for crossovers, SUVs and light trucks that can do everything; on-road and off, wet, dry, muddy, or snowy, 24/7, 365.

Deep "H" tread blocks protect the tire from abrasions from gravel and rocks, and integrated tie bars under the skin of the tire hold those meaty blocks together for quieter, more stable performance on the road. A tread pattern zig-zagging in every direction provides enhanced traction in all conditions, and the rubber compound that makes it all up is formulated to remain pliable even down to deep-freeze conditions, earning the Hankook DynaPro Total Terrain the 3-peak (3PMSF) certification for use in severe snow conditions (that means in localities that mandate winter tires, you can run these year-round.

Over a day on and off the road in the mountainous landscape outside of Calgary, Alberta, we saw first hand how the Hankook DynaPro Total Terrain is exceptionally quiet and refined despite having such a macho appearance, and they handled mud, gravel, rocks, and water fording without breaking a sweat; it was almost kind of boring, which is a good thing in a tire you’re counting on.

The Hankook DynaPro Total Terrain tire is available in many of the most common passenger and light truck sizes, from 245 to 285 in width, and from 16-20 inches in wheel diameter, with speed ratings from S to T. Importantly, they carry an impressive treadwear warranty of 97,000 kms on light truck applications, and 113,000 kilometres on passenger car sizes. They are available exclusively at Canadian Tire stores across Canada, and are available as of this Friday, August 14th.
