Land Rover has announced a new powertrain destined for the Range Rover Sport — and it's arriving sooner than you think.
Land Rover took to this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed to showcase the Range Rover Sport Electric, a fully electric prototype of its gem of a midsize sport-ute wearing not a lick of camouflage and looking very production-ready.
Final details and specs are still under wraps, but Land Rover says they're targeting 600+ kilometres of range, though that's based on Europe's generally more optimistic testing. Land Rover hasn't published final power figures, either, but Top Gear reports the new powertrain will be good for 542 horsepower and 637 lb-ft of torque.
Based on Land Rover's official images, the Range Rover Sport Electric won't look much different than its internal-combustion counterparts — a different wheel design and a filled-in upper grille panel appear to be the only real giveaways.
Land Rover hasn't specified an exact launch date, but given the not-so-sneaky sneak peek, we'll wager the Range Rover Sport Electric will be here sooner rather than later.
