Stellantis has delayed its pair of "extended range" electric vehicles — or plug-in hybrids, if you prefer a more accurate definition — yet again.

Originally expected to begin production this past May, Automotive News reports production for the upcoming Jeep Wagoneer Hybrid will now kick off in November, some six months following the automaker's initial target.

As well, the Ram 1500 REV has been hit with a second delay. Originally announced in 2024 under a different nameplate, the plug-in Ram had already been delayed once before to a 2026 launch. Now, according to the same report, it's expected to arrive in April 2027.

Autonews says the two models have been delayed once more "to ensure smooth launches" for the new powertrains. The two will be powered by two electric motors and a large-capacity battery pack.

Here's the twist: this powertrain will be augmented with a 3.6-litre V6 engine serving as a generator to recharge the battery, rather than powering the wheels. Hence the term "range-extended EV" rather than simply "plug-in hybrid." One would think introducing any form of internal combustion would rule out a vehicle being called an "EV."

Stellantis confirmed the delay to Car and Driver, committing to the Grand Wagoneer Hybrid "this year" and a "2027 arrival for the Ram."
