Happy Friday! Welcome to this week’s edition of the Official DoubleClutch.ca News Rundown, where we recap the top automotive headlines from the week that was in one convenient package. Let’s go.
First Look: 2027 GMC Sierra
Like thunder follows lightning, the 2027 GMC Sierra is here, arriving barely a beat after Chevy pulled the wraps off the also-new-for-2027 Silverado.
The new front end draws heavily from its EV counterpart, with a similar headlight and front grille shape. The rest of the truck is familiar but modernized, with some nips here, some tucks there, and new wheel designs across the board.
The 2027 GMC Sierra AT4X appears to be the golden child of the lineup, with GM particularly keen to point out its 35-inch mud-terrain tires, two-inch lift, unique hood design, locking front and rear diffs, Multimatic DSSV shocks, and a whole bunch of other cool off-road stuff. If you want more cool off-road stuff, GM says there will be another Sierra AT4X AEV for 2027.
The 2027 Sierra sees a similar round of updates inside as the new Silverado. The Sierra shares its screen setup — a 16.3-inch touchscreen for the infotainment, plus a 12.2-inch digital gauge cluster — with the Silverado, and it's standard across the lineup. There's also an optional heads-up display, digital rear-view mirror, and of course, a questionably useful 11.5-inch passenger-side touchscreen.
Other new additions for 2027 include a fold-out centre console table a la Ford F-150, two wireless phone chargers, and in top trims, a panoramic sunroof, a 16-speaker Bose sound system, forged wood accents, SuperCruise that works with a trailer, and two new V8 engines which we'll learn about later.
Expect to see the 2027 GMC Sierra in dealers towards the end of 2026., with a pricing announcement to come shortly before.
Ineos opens two new dealers, announces 2026 pricing
Ineos Automotive, the company behind those sweet BMW-powered, resto-modded Defenders — oops, can we say that? — has announced pricing for its 2026 lineup.
The Grenadier Station Wagon and the Grenadier Quatermaster pickup both start at $96,695 for the 2026 model year. They will be joined by a new blacked-out Black Edition, which tops the lineup at $106,995.
Improvements for 2026 include a redesigned steering system, a litany of software updates for smarter safety tech and improved off-road performance, the front seat backs now have map pockets, and the optional Rough Pack trimmings now have BFGoodrich K03s.
Along with 2026 pricing, Ineos Automotive announced it's adding two new dealers to its Canadian network. The new stores are Weissach Ineos Grenadier in Vancouver and Grand Touring Ineos in Calgary, having both opened their doors earlier in June to much local fanfare.
Slate's EV trucklet will start at US$24,995
Slate Auto is quickly becoming one of the more exciting automotive fledglings to watch in 2026. Promising a no-nonsense driving experience, loads of customizations, decent EV range, Slate's upcoming EV trucklet is now shaping up to be genuinely cheap — at least, in the U.S.
The Jeff Bezos-backed EV startup has announced its barebones EV pickup will start at US$24,995 before destination. Based strictly on the exchange rate, that works out to just about $35,500 Canadian.
It boasts a similar five-foot bed size as the Ford Maverick, but much smaller dimensions overall. But the real draw is its configurability and customizability: Slate lets you convert this little thing into an SUV with an enclosed back and will offer literally hundreds of accessories to fit various tastes and build objectives.
No matter how you configure the body, each Slate is powered by a 63 kWh battery and a single rear-mounted electric motor, rated at 181 horsepower and up to 330 km of range. Slate has said it intends to launch in the Canadian market, but the timing remains to be determined.

Polestar can't sell cars in the U.S. after next year, the 2027 A3 will now have Audi's new, screen-heavy Digital Stage interior, Ram announced Canadian pricing for the 2027 TRX, Chevrolet went to Pikes Peak with a ZR1X and obliterated a production car record, and apparently the Honda Element is coming back.
