Honda is reportedly working on an 'affordable' hybrid crossover due out in three years — and it will bear another familiar nameplate.
According to Automotive News, the Honda Element is slated to return in 2029. Honda hasn't publicly confirmed the Element's return, but unnamed sources familiar with the plans say production will begin in the second quarter of 2029, and they're targeting 100,000 units in the first full year of production.
The move comes after Honda pulled the plug on its EV plans over the next few years, instead opting to focus on conventional and plug-in hybrids, as well as updating a long list of legacy models that, frankly, haven't seen a whole 'lotta love lately.
Along with a hybrid powertrain, the resurrected Element is expected to slot between the HR-V and CR-V both size- and price-wise. It's also expected to tap into Honda's TrailSport lineup, paving the way for a compelling Ford Bronco Sport alternative. Given the Element's cult following — not to mention the general dearth of genuinely affordable and practical hybrid CUVs — a new one can't come soon enough.
