Nissan has officially revealed the next-generation 2027 Rogue Hybrid, finally offering its E-Power hybrid powertrain to North American buyers.

The debut of the 2027 Rogue coincides with the debut of Nissan's third-gen hybrid tech. Nissan says this latest evolution of its E-Power hybrid powertrain has been tuned for North American roads and driving styles, emphasizing passing power and better efficiency at higher speeds.

It starts with a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine rated at 148 horsepower on its own, further augmented by two electric motors and a 1.67 kWh battery pack. Where the E-Power differs is in its operation; it's a series hybrid, meaning the gas engine doesn't actually power the wheels. Instead, the gas engine charges the battery, which then feeds into the electric motor on each axle.

As a result, Nissan rates the 2027 Rogue Hybrid at a combined 225 horsepower, and fuel economy at 5.9 L/100 km in the city, 6.5 on the highway, and 6.2 combined. It also includes regenerative braking and a new feature called Smooth Stop, which modulates braking pressure for true one-pedal driving. On account of the dual-electric-motor setup, all Rogue Hybrids are all-wheel-drive.

Visually, the new Rogue Hybrid is identical to the X-Trail, revealed earlier this year and sold in overseas markets. It's characterized by creases and folds, sharp lines, and a hexagonal motif repeated throughout. Inside, the new Rogue uses Nissan's newer infotainment layout — a pair of either 12.3- or 14.3-inch screens under one panel — along with improved materials, rear doors that open nearly 90 degrees, and more cabin space all around, among countless other improvements over the outgoing Rogue. Most importantly, Nissan kept the physical buttons on the Rogue's centre stack and steering wheel. Hallelujah.

Tech-wise, Nissan says its ProPilot suite of active safety and driver assists are smarter and operate more naturally. For instance, there's a new front radar sensor and a new front camera with a wider field of view, lending to smoother responses in stop-and-go traffic and better obstacle detection. ProPilot can also now automatically change lanes and the 360-degree camera system receives sees similar "see-through" settings as the new Armada and Murano.

Nissan will offer the 2027 Rogue Hybrid in four trim levels. The nearly-fully-loaded SR trim will be the first to hit dealers this fall — told you you should've waited — at $47,998 to start. It will be joined next spring by additional trim levels, including the lower-priced $39,998 SV, next spring.

And if you're still not keen on going hybrid, Nissan will continue to sell the current, non-hybrid Rogue alongside the new one for the 2027. Nissan says they'll have more to share on the gassers "at a later date."
